These wild deer came down from off the
mountain behind me and were trying to get in to mate with the
captive deer on this farm. A cloud shadowed most of this moutain,
but as you can see, one small area of sunlight stood out like a
spotlight. As the deer began walking the ridgeline to the left I
waited and caught the image just as they passed through the sunlit
area. After I arrived home and looked at this image on my computer, I was at first quite confused. The deer
appear to be inside the fence line, and yet I knew that wasn't possible. I
knew, for a fact, that I had even walked up to the left side of the
picture, and had watched the deer disappear down the other side of the
hill. I sat puzzled in my home, gazing at my computer. Then I realized
that there is an optical illusion at work here. There are actually two
hills here that appear as one. The fence line disappears down the first
hill and turns right. The deer walked right to left, along the second of
the two blended ridgelines, without ever having to cross the fence
line. |
