 A Hundred Red Ribbons

High on Tianmen Mountain a Chinese man walks along the trail through a sea of red ribbons. One of the biggest hits of all time, have you heard the song"Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Ole Oak Tree"? How do you think the man in the song would have responded had the oak tree been covered with red ribbons? It depends upon whether he was an optimist or a pessimist. If he was an optimist he would say, "She loves me so much that she tied 100 red ribbons around the tree instead of one yellow ribbon!" If he was a pessimist he would stay on the bus thinking, "She must really hate me to tie 100 red ribbons around the tree." I have to believe that overall the life of an optimist is both happier and more successful than the life of a pessimist. The pessimist would live with more depressing thoughts and would be less likely to even try, therefore becoming less successful in all aspects of life.
