Submission and Rebellion
June 15, 2013   f/5.6   1/100 sec

A photograph that conveys the stark contrast of these young monks who are completely submissive to Buddha with the rebellious nature of the gangs that painted the graffiti on the wall behind them. These Laos monks, led by the elder monk, walked through the main streets of Vang Vieng, stopping at designated spots where patrons were waiting with gifts of food. They would stop and pray at each station, the elder monk would sprinkle a blessing of holy water on the food they brought and upon the patrons themselves.
