The sun peeks an eye over the
horizon as pink clouds wrap around the mountains near
Queenstown. It is very rare that I shoot an image with the sun
visible within the frame of the photograph. Years ago when I
used film and looked through the eye piece of my camera, my
concern was that the glass and mirrors of the camera did nothing
to protect my eye, I could damage my retina. Currently I do use a digitally formatted
camera
with a monitor display, but the instruction manual warns that
pointing the camera directly at the sun will damage the light sensors. I
realize that most instruction manuals would rather overstate than
understate the warning, but I don't even want to take a chance
on returning home after a long photo trip and then finding some subtle defect
within all my images. This was one shot,
however, that
I wanted badly enough that I quickly and carefully exposed it, only
turning the camera on after everything was ready, and then shooting very
quickly. |
