If New Zealand is the
original "Garden of Eden", then certainly, at least from an artistic point
of view, this must be its "Tree of Life". Walk with me while I humour you
a little. According to the original story God placed Cherubims and a
flaming sword to keep man from partaking of the tree of life. If this is
the tree of life, it has survived 6,000 years and Noah's flood, which
might explain why it has no longer has any fruit on it. Since, in these
pressing times, even God has to down-size a little, and since the tree no
longer bears any fruit, the Cherubims had to be reassigned to other more pressing issues in the universe, while some of Noah's flood waters have
been retained to help preserve this historical landmark (or is it
"watermark"?) |
