The "Last Supper" has its 12 apostles,
Zion National Park has its "The Three Patriarchs", and now I present
to you "The Seven Fern Trees". (Too bad for Yosemite which only has
its "Half Dome".) Maybe these trees are the cherubims "placed at the east of
the garden of Eden to keep the way of the tree of life." Okay, so
I confess,
these trees are on the west coast and I might be the only person who
even cared enough to stop and frame their family portrait, let alone
to distinguish them with any kind of name or title. Early in the
growing cycle these trees look like any other ferns in any other part of the world, but,
as you can see here, eventually they grow trunks and start to look
more like a tree. Ferns offer great possiblities for patterns and I
garnished a substantial portfolio of close-ups, but when it came time
to choose photographs for this gallery, this image seemed more unique
and seemed to do more to put the the viewer "in the forest". |
