This is the first moose I have seen since returning to Utah last summer. The first three months I rode the bus, so my photography didn't really get off the ground until I bought a car in mid-October. Even though I have labored in love almost every day since then, in an effort to save gas I have stayed close to home, where there are a lot of turkey and deer, but no moose.

Hampered with back pain, I left my telephoto lens at home, too difficult to carry hiking, and too risky to leave in the car. I still got a good photo though. I captured this image from inside my car, a mere 20 feet away while she stood above me on the side of a hill. I had rolled down my front window and turned off the engine so that the car wouldn't shake while I took the photos.  Since my car won't allow me to roll the windows back up with the engine off, as she came down onto the road,  cautious as I am,  I turned the engine on. That spooked her so badly that her rear leg skidded on the road as she tried to bolt out of there. I regret having spooked her, as that may have changed her disposition toward people and towards additional cars in the future. Rather than turning my engine on to roll up the window, in the unlikely event that she might have gotten aggravated and attacked me, I could have crawled into the back and against the far side of the car. In this lawsuit happy society, however, I must advise you, "do not try this at home."  smiley
