Until Covid hit I ate at Sizzler in Thailand three days a week.
They had a promotion where if you didn't order a specific dish,
but just ate what was offered at the salad bar, you could eat
all you wanted for a mere 140 baht ($4.07.) I felt it was the
best way to load up on vegetables and stay healthy. Once upon a
time they had a video out in front of their restaurants that
showed where all their vegetables came from, they grow them on
their own farms up in Chiang Mai (about a 10 hour bus ride north
of Bangkok.)Their salad bar is loaded with fresh vegetables like
broccoli, peas, spinach, cherry tomatoes, corn, red beets, and
carrots. In additon they had pasta, imitation crab, quail eggs,
fresh pineapple, apples, and a selection of prepared salads.
All you can eat for a mere 140 baht, why would anyone eat at
home?
They also promoted Wednesday Night Specials, wherein they
offered about four of their main dishes at 100 baht discount. As
pictured above I loved the smoke sausage with pepper sauce ( a
black peppercorn gravy,) a perfect combination that I would
savor nearly every Wednesday night. I would always get two extra
servings of pepper sauce because I loved it on my pork steak and
rice as well. Often I took home the pork steak, rice, and cheese
bread and even brought my own reusable tupperware container,
which not only helps to save the enviroment, but saves 20 or 40
baht. You can't take home food from the all you can eat salad
bar, which is included in the meal, but you can take home your
entire main course if you wish. The whole meal comes in at only
349 baht ($10.15) Now perhaps you are beginning to understand
why I miss eating out in Thailand! (next
dish)
