Sam, Sam
by A. J. Windless
My mother stands in front of this cave,
Screaming frantically for me to emerge,
But I cannot hear one word she cries,
My passage out is completely submerged.
Every night I kneel and deeply plea,
Assuring brothers wrap their arms around me.
Sam, Sam, I am going to hang on,
Sam, Sam, I’m down deep in this earth
But I am not here all alone,
And I believe someone will come for me.
It’s cold and it’s dark, I sleep in the mud
I sense that I’m getting short of breath.
I’m starving, it hurts, I wanna see my mom
Tonight I just wanna sleep in my bed.
Then in the murky water a head appears
A Marvel hero finds me, calms my fears.
Sam, Sam, I am going to hang on,
Sam, Sam, I’m down deep in this earth
But I am not here all alone,
And I believe someone will come for me.
Now a navy seal arrives home dead,
While all of us continue to breathe,
But he lives on as a hero to me,
I will honor him with the way that I live.
Sam, Sam, I am going to hang on,
Sam, Sam, I down deep in this earth,
But the whole world knows I am gone,
All United labor my rebirth.
All United labor my rebirth.
