Decades ago my brother lived breifly in
Massachusetts. As I headed that way for fall colors he reminisced to me
that Massachusetts was exceptionally beautiful and as I worked my way
through that coastal state, I could definitely identify with his feelings.
All of the northeastern states are very very similar, and yet each has its
own subtle distinquishing differences that set its beauty apart from the
others.
What is comical, is that when I first moved west decades ago, and
identified myself as a Pennsylvanian, I often heard the question, "The
east is just wall to wall city, isn't it?" Those people might have been
surprised to learn that, even today, decades later, this is a photo of one
of the major routes through Massachusetts. For hundreds of years Americans
have been moving to the "wide open spaces" of the west. From what I have
seen on my recent trips, maybe the time has come for Americans to reverse
migration to the wild and unsettled forests of the east! |
