My friend used to always park his car under this tree. As sure as the arrival of fall itself, every year this tree would turn an impressive shade of red. Trees aren't always that predictable, but this tree had sprinklers in the yard, so it always got the correct amount of water. A passionate Utah football fan, it should not be surprising that he favored a tree that every season turned the same color as the sweater he wore to the games. The Utes joined the Pac-12 in 2011, but in those 10 years they had never won a conference championship. Having grown up in southern California, where U.S.C. and U.C.L.A. were expected to win every year, it would have brought him great delight to see Utah play in their stead. This year Utah did finally win the Pac-12 championship and will be going to the Rose Bowl.  If only he could have traveled to that game in southern California he would  have thought he had died and gone to heaven.  ( As it turns out he did die, and hopefully did go to heaven. Do you think he knows about the game? Will he still be able to watch it?)    (December 2021)
