This location will never yield another great photo. The last
time I was here there was construction equipment everywhere,
with digging and excavation already bringing a dramatic change
in scenery. In Utah they are not just building houses, they are
building whole subdivisions. Everywhere in the Ogden area new
subdivisions are sprouting up like corn in the old farm fields. I don't
see a plan in place to provide water for all this new
construction and still maintain life as we know it for
everybody. As far as I have seen, every new home continues to install sod and grow
traditional lawns. There are no laws in place to protect the
greater good of all the people. The governor himself has
admitted that the Great Salt Lake is in deep crisis and has
asked us to let our lawns yellow, yet the number of lawns we
need to water continues to grow on a daily basis, diverting more
and more water from the Great Salt Lake. I don't know how to
stop the growth, but we could at least require alternative
landscaping. Otherwise we are not even trying, we have already
conceded that the lake is a lost cause. Once it is gone we lose
all the moisture the lake effect brings us and our water
shortages will get even worse. |
