Through the pages of this gallery, you will see the boardwalk in
three different colors. Originally the boards were unfinished
and within months the wood would weather to a dark gray. As you
walk through this gallery you will notice that dark grey worked
well, as the grain in the wood added another dimension to my
artwork and looked very rustic. However, since it rains so
frequently in Thailand, the boards were in constant need of
replacing, usually a few at a time, so that walkway became full
of patchwork. At that point they
called some people in to sand down all the boards and paint
them. The above photo was taken at a time when I thought we were
seeing the final product, but this was just the sealant you see
here and they
ended up painting over this with a dark brown. As it turns out, the paint
is not even sticking to the wood, but is flaking off, and the boardwalk looks
worse than it did before they started. I thought they were going to use
a laquer or a varnish, which would have looked much like the
photo above, and would have been much more attractive. |
