One More Day
Spoken Word by the author, A. J. Windless
I woke up this morning and I walked across this floor,
I opened my window, my heart began to soar
The sunlight streaming in hit me on the cheek
It warmed me deep inside made me feel I'm alive
I can see flapping wings on butterflies
I can see the bees as they gather in their prize
I see sunrise colors all across these skies
I am so lucky just to have these two eyes.
I am deeply thrilled just to have one more day,
That I can try to sing for you and I can still play
I have two hands, I have a voice
And this guitar, and I will write
And play this song for you today.
I woke up this morning and I walked outside my door
From underneath this willow I feel it to the core
A cool spring breeze begins to stir these leaves
Drifting with the ease of the whispering seas
I can hear chirping chicks in their nest
Mother calling father from a tree to the west
I am so lucky just to have these two ears,
Hearing all these sounds through each of my years.
I am deeply thrilled just to have one more day,
That I can try to sing for you and I can still play
I have two hands, I have a voice
And this guitar, and I will write
And play this song for you today.
I woke up one morning wanting so much more
Everyday a ditto, my heart began to implore
Than I realized I still have two feet
To walk here and there gather food to eat
Every night sleeping warmly in a bed
A room to keep me dry and a pillow for my head
From underneath the willow I felt it to the core
I've learned to open my window let my heart soar.
I am deeply thrilled just to have one more day,
That I can try to sing for you and I can still play
I have two hands, I have a voice
And this guitar, and I will write
And play this song for you today.
